Playful and colorful urban hotel in vibrant Zürich West with a sports- and activity theme

25hours Hotels are doing something interesting. For every hotel they open they tend to go for a theme. Sometimes it can have a close connection to the town where the hotel is located. It can be a historic event or something connected to literature. Or like with 25hours Zürich West where it is all about sports and activity.
As soon as you enter the hotel you get what the theme is. The first thing you see in the lobby are two massive chairs in the shape of a boxing glove. There are little handy leaflets guiding you to some good running trails in the area. The hotel shop is stocked with things you might need for your activity and the lobby is filled with vintage sports paraphernalia like sport bags and shirts.
The look of the hotel has a playfulness to it with a lot of graphic shapes and patterns. There is a lot of color used in the design (I especially love the raspberry-red tiles in our bathroom) and here and there the walls are adorned with what I guess is supposed to look like a child has painted it.
If you want to live according to the theme of the hotel, there is a lot of activities you can do in and around the building. There are fussball tables, pool table and in the back of the hotel there is a narrow but very long pool, perfect for doing laps. On the top floor there is a work out space and also a sauna if you are looking for a more chill kind of activity.
The hotel is located in the vibrant west area, which used to be filled with industries and warehouses but is now becoming more residential where you’ll find a lot of great restaurants, bars and cafés. Along the train viaduct you’ll find a long row of independent small shops and it is at the end of this row where you’ll find the Markthalle, where you can get something to eat or buy some groceries.

You understand the theme as soon as you walk in. Here it is all about sports and activities.
I especially like the vintage sports paraphernalia that is on display in the lobby.
25hours hotels always have really great hotel shops.

In all 25hours Hotels there is always a cuddly animal if you would ever feel lonely.
The design is very graphic and colorful.
Upstairs on the top floor there is a place to work out…
…and also a mini-spa and a sauna.
Next to the lobby and the restaurant there is a space…
…where you can get active with pool…
…or fussball.
In the back of the hotel is where you’ll find the pool. It is narrow but long so you can easily do your laps here.
And next to the pool, if you need to recharge, there is an Italian-style gelateria.
M is out hiking the Uetlikon mountain where you have splendid views of the city, the lake and beyond.
On our way back from the hike to the hotel, we stopped at the excellent Walter Buchmann Café Hubertus near Letzigrund Stadion. A perfect pit stop.

This is the Markthalle where you can pop in for something to eat, drink or to buy something to bring back home.
Being burger lovers, we stopped at Burgermeister. They have a couple of restaurants dotted around town.

My favorite thing about this place…
…is the pool in the back of the hotel with is narrow but long, so you can practice your stride. The hotel even offers swimming classes if you want to improve your technique.
What not to miss when staying here…
…is to explore this exciting part of town. It is not as picture perfect as the rest of Zürich but a little more rough around the edges with I personally really like. If you are up for something active, the Zürich house-mountain Uetliberg is easy access from here, and a perfect hike to start your day and get to see the town from above.
