3 great Amsterdam hotels

Amsterdam hotels

There are few cities I know better or have spent more time in than Amsterdam. After living in The Netherlands for almost 6 years and being landlocked there during the pandemic, Amsterdam got a lot of visits from me and the husband. And even though we went there all the time, I never got tired of this beautiful, cozy, scenic, unique, quirky, messy and absolutely wonderful city.

Since I am not the unique when it comes to loving Amsterdam and having the urge to go there, there are a lot of hotels in this fairly small city. Hotels that cater to all kinds of tastes. If you want to stay in a hipster hotel with a creative urban vibe, in a fancy upmarket hotel with a high-end luxury feel or in a cozy boutique hotel next to a canal, you’ll find it all and then some in Amsterdam.

Below I have listed three of my favorite hotels in Amsterdam but trust me when I say that the list could easily be twice or thrice as long.

Max Brown Canal District

This cute little boutique hotel is located right by Herengracht, one of the main canals of Amsterdam. What makes this hotel one of my favorites is that it gives you that authentic Amsterdam experience that very few other hotels (except for some that are really, really expensive) can offer. It is situated in one of those old, wonky canal houses where the staircase squeaks and the floor is slightly tilted. I love that we could lay in bed and see the boats slowly pass by on the water.

Volkshotel

There are so many different sides to Amsterdam. One is the quirky, creative and dare I say hipster side that I love so much. And as a consequence there are a number of hotels that embody and evoke this alternative look and feel. One of my favorites in this category of hotels is Volkshotel. It is located in the trendy east part of town in an old news paper HQ. What I love with this hotel is the unique design, the casual vibe and that it attracts locals that come here to work, eat, drink and play. I love hotels where visitors and locals mix.

Soho House

This hotel has it all. Yes, it is on the more lux part of the scale but I think you get what you pay for. The design is forward thinking and unique. The service is amazing and you have amazing restaurant, bar,, cinema, gym, spa and roof top pool in house. It is that kind of hotel that you don’t want to leave when staying here but just enjoy all the different things on site. We just ended up taking a short walk and then spent as much time as possible within the four walls of the hotel wishing we could stay for ever.
