5 delicious hotel breakfasts

Hotel breakfast

Hotel breakfasts is a tricky subject. I guess we have all experienced lackluster, boring and uninspiring breakfasts where you regretted wasting the calories. And don’t get me started if this boring breakfast wasn’t included in the price but you had actually paid extra for it… That’s a real mood killer.

And then there are hotel breakfasts that makes you wish you would never become full. Where you want to sit and eat all day long just sampling your way through the menu or buffet.

Breakfast to me is by far my favourite meal of the day which I take very seriously, especially when staying at a hotel. So trust me when I say that these five hotel breakfasts have been extra carefully selected and I can promise that you will not be disappointed when eating them.

The Star / Alfriston, England

The breakfast at the Star is such a treat. Before I even start to describe the food, I have to mention the beautiful plates and bowls used to serve it on. Hand painted plants and trees that all grow locally. Ok, the food. They offer a great combo of buffet and a la carte. The big prize winner for me was the home made rhubarb mash that I had with my cereal. Yum!

Hotel SEPP / Maria Alm, Austria

The breakfast at SEPP almost put me in a shock. It was so extensive when it comes to the selection but what was even more impressive is how it was set up. I can only imagine how long it must have taken to prepare it all and making it look this enticing. Since we are early birds we were the first ones all mornings we stayed here and we learned our lesson the second morning, where we had just had a very light dinner the evening before to really enjoy the breakfast at this marvelous Alpine hotel.

Breac House

At Breac House breakfast is almost like a ceremony. First you get coffee delivered to your room through a serving hatch. You just open the small cupboard door after waking up and coffee is magically there. Soon after, a breakfast tray is delivered the same way with so much good stuff on it and a little note from owners Niall & Cathrine. We used to take ours out to the terrace and enjoy it “al fresco”. I think you get the picture when looking at the photo above.

Mesnerhaus / Mauterndorf, Austria

It started with the dinner at Mesnerhaus which for us was a remarkable experience. Josef who was running the show in the kitchen cooked up a storm where one dish was just more amazing than the next one. So our hopes were pretty high when breakfast came around. And you know what, we were not disappointed. It was an array of small plates of delicious treats. And everything looked so nice we kind of didn’t want to touch anything at first. Felt like we were destroying some kind of art installation. But we quickly came to our senses and started to dig in until we were so full we had to go back to the room for a lay down.

Aggershøj / Ærø, Denmark

The Danes really know how to do breakfast. When staying at a hotel in Denmark that is really one of the highlights that rarely disappoints. And one that stand out among all the hotel breakfasts I have sampled in Denmark is the one at Aggershøj. Freshly baked buns and danish (makes sense), home made granola, great coffee. It is not one of those lavish buffets but some selected items that makes your stomach jump for joy.
