Friends of RG: Jorden

When we were living in the Netherlands, M the husband taught classes at YG Studios in Rotterdam. This fabulous place was founded and is run by the wonderful Ferdinand and his equally wonderful husband, Jorden. Jorden and I hit it off on the spot since we both work in HR, we both have personalities that take up a lot of space (we see ourselves as the life of the party. Any party) and we both are hard core hotel fanatics, always on the look-out for new, exciting hotels to stay at. Jorden has recommended many hoteIs to me that are currently on my wish list. One of the recommendations we have crossed off our list thus far is 48º Nord in Alsace, France and later this year we will go to Algarve, Portugal and stay at Casa Mae in Lagos which also come recommended by Jorden.

What hotel were you staying at when you first realised that you were a hotel-fanatic?

I believe this was when I booked a stay in Hotel des Galeries in Brussels: https://www.hoteldesgaleries.be/en, which is located in a fin-de-siecle shopping passage and has a really nice restaurant as part of the hotel.

What kind of hotels do you usually go for?

I like places that feel one of a kind, have an eclectic décor, and are not too big. I also like when they are the first hotel of creative teams that are not necessarily coming from hospitality, that tends to result in very original spaces and places.

What has been your most memorable hotel stay thus far? And why?

Memorable in the sense that it was very different was my stay at Kruisherenhotel in Maastricht, during Covid, where we had to have dinner in our room, which they made a very fun experience.

3 of your musts when staying at a hotel?

A great quality bed with fresh linen, a good shower and some great design features.

If you have stayed at any of the hotels featured on SbRG, which one is your favourite?

I must be 1898 The Post in Ghent, which was an amazing experience, it’s a beautiful building in a gorgeous location.

Which of the featured hotels on Selected by RG are on the top of your wish list to stay at?

Since Paris is high on my list to visit again, I would love to book a few nights at Hotel Les Deux Gares, which looks like a very fun place to stay.

Are there any hotels you think should be featured on Selected by RG in the future?

Casa Mae in Lagos, Portugal is a contender, it’s so well put together; https://casa-mae.com/. You should also consider la Dimora di Metello in Matera for its amazing view and quirky rooms; https://www.ladimoradimetello.com/. Masseria Potenti in Puglia is also very unique: https://www.masseriapotenti.it/masseria/
