Tooting my own horn: My favorite photos

I love taking pictures but I am still very much an amateur who is trying to find my aesthetic. Like many others in the same situation as me, I decided it was a good idea to invest in some solid technical aid. So I bought myself a little toy called Leica (don’t worry, it is one of the basic ones, Leica D-LUX 7).

Sometimes I fail miserably but sometimes I must say that I really nail it. To be honest it has a lot to do with luck, like stumbling over an interesting angle, being in the right spot at the right time of day when the light is magical or that the Leica makes everything look extra nice.

Regardless, I thought I wanted to share some of my favorite photos in this new series of posts. I have asked the best photographer I know who also happens to be my dear friend Tore to contribute with his professional point of view regarding what it is with the photo in question that makes it a good photo. I know I am out on a limb here when talking about a “good" photo but I hope you will humor me. Basically, these are photos that I think are really good. Humble much?

This photo is from La Maison Plûme, that sits right next to the river Seine in Normandy, France. It is a cute, warm B&B filled with striking colors, designed by people with impeccable taste. I personally love this photo with all the different details and shapes that could have made it feel unruly but where there is actually a kind of harmony. But what does the expert say? Why is this a good photo according to Tore?

There is a joy, a playfulness in the aesthetic of this photo thanks to all the variations in colors and shapes, where the different round ones are dominating the photo. The multiple warm color tones are extremely cohesive and together with the baked goods it makes me dream of to lazy breakfasts in the Summer shade.

The white Baby’s Breath (the flowers) pick up the colors in the tableware as well as the floor tiles which creates a great balance with the otherwise rustic, vivid colors. The person who doesn’t get a craving for a cafe au lait and a croissant when looking at this photo must either be lactose and/or gluten intolerant. God knows that I do.
