Quirky and casual boutique hotel in Chiswick, West London with a rural design aesthetic
High Road House / Chiswick/ London / UK
One thing I love to do when going to big cities is to choose a hotel based on location. To try to find a hotel located in an unexpected or less travelled part of town and by staying in said hotel you get to experience an area you would have most likely otherwise never seen. This is exactly what happened when I decided to book a stay at High Road House in Chiswick, London.
Chiswick is located in West London and is a leafy neighborhood where the streets are lined with Victorian-era houses and green spaces. The place has a small town feel although it is located only a couple of stops on the Elizabeth Line from central London. And in the center of Chiswick, right on the High Road is where you’ll find the aptly named High Road House.
High Road House is part of the ever expanding Soho House Group, that was founded by Nick Jonas back in 1995. This outpost with only 14 rooms opened its doors in 2007 and has been referred to as the most low-key of all the Soho Houses. The atmosphere is fully in line with the local vibe; relaxed and casual.
The design of the hotel has a kind of rural aesthetic with wooden panelled walls painted in soft hues, rustic vintage-looking bathrooms and an overall homely feel. Another thing that strikes me is the size of the rooms. London hotels are notorious for their minimal floor space (we always jokingly wonder what Americans think when entering a normal London hotel room considering how huge hotels overseas usually are), but here the rooms are big, huge even.
There are two restaurants on site, one on street level which is open to all, and one on the first floor open only to members or people staying at the hotel. Both spaces are great, casual dining spaces where you can slide in for something to eat or for a cup of coffee or drink. Perfect after having explored the local area or if you’ve been traipsing around central London. The feeling of returning to the quiet streets of Chiswick and slumping down in one of the sofas in the bar at High Road House was so relaxing.
Welcome to High Road House in Chiswick, West London!
We were early so we stopped in the restaurant of the ground floor (which is open to all) for a coffee before our room was ready.
Entering the hotel
Heading up to our room
Our room had a very rural look and feel with wooden panels and a soft color pallet.
The style is very analoge and vintage-y
The little nook was my favorite part of our room. Love to cozy up in a day bed next to a window.
Soho House always have the best mini bars.
A newspaper holder is a great design feature to add to a room in order to make it more homely and cozy. The same goes for a rug. At High Road House you get both.
The bathroom had a rural, rustic look, very much inline with the style of the room.
The membership part of High Road House is a colorful, relaxed looking space.
Love this eclectic collection of art.
This lamp!!! Simply gorgeous.
A Dirty Martini before dinner
Enjoying dinner at Soho House. This side of Macaroni and Cheese was so delicious.
One place I always go to when in London is Granger & Co. either for breakfast or for lunch. I can recommend their burger.
One of the bestsellers at Granger & CO. is this dish, sweetcorn fritters.

This place is perfect if you…
…are going to London and you want to stay at a location away from the hustle of the central parts, where there is a calmer vibe and you can experience some of the local life. If you on top off that like a rural touch to your urban boutique hotel, you will feel right at home at High Road House.
My favorite thing about this place…
…is the size of the rooms. This is something unique for London where most rooms are on the smaller side.
What not to miss when staying here…
…is to hang out in the local area of Chiswick. There are several pubs (obviously), restaurants and cafés on the High Road just outside the hotel. And if you want to go in the central London, it is easy access from Turnham Green Station which is a short 5 min walk from the hotel.
