Rome hotel in a dusty pink 70s building with an interior oozing of delicious mid-century design
The Hoxton / Roma / Italy
When traveling to popular places, especially world-famous cities, it can be difficult or even down-right impossible to find hotels that brings you close to the real every-day life of its citizens. Hotels tend to cluster in the same districts where the only people you meet are other visitors like yourself. And that can be fine if that is your jam (and to be honest, sometimes this is the only option available). So when I come across hotels where the location has been carefully selected in order to do the complete opposite, my little hotel heart skips a beat. This was fully the case with The Hoxton Rome.
This hotel is located in the upscale and same time residential district of Parioli, just east of the leafy Villa Borghese. Before this 192-key hotel opened back in 2021 this was a generic office building. But in came the Hoxton team bringing their in-house Ennismore Design Studio and they went to town on this dusty pink 70s building. The result is a celebration of mid-century Italian design. And what is so impressive to me is that even though this is a chain and it does have that atypical Hoxton look-and-feel, it still feels unique. The design has an almost cinematic look to it. Dramatic without being exaggerated. I would rather describe it as elegant and timeless.
Our room was on the smaller side of the spectrum (which is often the case with Hoxton hotels), but since it was very functional and well-planned it was all good. The look had the same 70s signature design with dark wood and some time typical features like the vintage telephone, lamps and radio.
One of my favorite parts of this hotel, next to the location, is the lobby/bar area. The design of this space is so stunning. Dark wood, colorful carpets, playful furniture and loads of plants, lamps and decorations celebrating that 70s aesthetic which is so easy on the eye.
Welcome to the Hoxton Rome! I love this dusty pink exterior oozing of the 70s.
The lobby is all dressed in dark wood with colorful furniture, carpets and other features, connecting the interior with the exterior, which all feels like a celebration of the 70s.
This is a great idea! Where one can share great tips with other guests.
All checked in and ready to head upstairs to our room.
The design of our room felt true to the 70s vibe.
I love the color combination of the tiles in our bathroom.
M getting ready to head out to explore the eternal city.
But before going out, some additional photos from the bar. I love this design aesthetic!
The in-house restaurant has an outdoor seating area. Perfect for those warm Roman evenings.
M having a quick break at Villa Borghese. Enjoying the tranquility of far end corner of the park…
…before heading in to town to explore.
Stopping at one of the lemonade stands you can find dotted around the city.
The mighty Tiber River and one of the many bridges that cross it.
A must when in Italy. some gelato from Venchi.
Another must, a stiff Negroni. It went down without force after a hot day of traipsing around Rome.

This place is perfect if you…
…are coming to Rome and you are looking for a hotel in a more residential, non-touristy part of town. A hotel with a timeless, elegant yet casual design. If all of this is in line with your wishes, you will appreciate the Hoxton in Rome.
My favorite thing about this place…
…is the location. It is difficult when going to super popular places such as Rome and find a place where you get to mix with the locals and not just other visitors like myself. The location of the Hoxton has been carefully selected so you can also experience some of the real, contemporary Rome and its people. And it also doesn’t hurt that the 70s inspired design is right up my alley.
What not to miss when staying here…
…is to take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful Villa Borghese. It is a great place to escape when the energy of Rome becomes too intense.
